Liverpool defender van Dijk is Terry, Vidic and Ferdinand rolled into one – Redknappby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is a combination of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. That is according to former Reds and England midfielder Jamie Redknapp. The Dutchman has been a revelation since moving to Anfield in January and Redknapp believes he has the same attributes as three of the Premier League’s greatest centre-backs.He told Daily Mail: “We are only halfway through the season but already nobody comes close to Virgil van Dijk in the race for Player of the Year. He is the one player every team would love to have in their side.”Think of the best defenders in Premier League history — John Terry, Rio Ferdinandand Nemanja Vidic. Van Dijk is all three players rolled into one.”He reads the game like Terry and is a lovely passer, getting the ball out of his feet and spraying 30-yard balls. Van Dijk is blessed with the pace of Rio, too. Rarely do you see him caught out in a one-v-one situation.”While he is not as aggressive as Vidic, he has that same warrior spirit and will to win. He is calm, cool, composed in the air and is a brilliant leader.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say

(Photo By Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)Clemson is never short on freak athletes at the skill positions, and it looks like four-star running back Ray Ray McCloud III will fit right in. McCloud, who is from Tampa, was participating in a one-on-one drill… at least, he was, before he broke his defender’s ankles with a nasty juke. To add insult to injury, McCloud finished the play with an Odell Beckham-style one-handed catch. Luckily for us, someone grabbed a Vine of the impressive play.We can’t wait to see McCloud in college, well, at least when he’s not playing our favorite ACC teams.[Rubbing The Rock]

Stewart, a junior, hauled in eight catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns. After the game, ESPN’s Holly Rowe attempted to catch up with Stewart. After listening to her question regarding the team’s passing game, however, Stewart walked off, clearly preoccupied. Rowe then found Nick Saban instead. Someone on Alabama’s staff motioned to Stewart, signaling that he wasn’t supposed to be doing a post-game interview. We’ll surely get the answer when we hear from Saban later on this afternoon.
Harry Kane believes Tottenham can win the Premier League this season after strengthening their squad during the transfer window. After falling to Liverpool in the Champions League final to end their last campaign, Spurs opened their domestic season with a 3-1 win over newly promoted Aston Villa at home on Saturday.Tottenham, who finished fourth last season, have gone close to conquering the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino – a runners-up finish in 2016-17 sandwiched between third place finishes in 2015-16 and 2017-18. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Spurs have bolstered their squad after two consecutive windows without a signing with club-record recruit Tanguy Ndombele, who scored against Villa, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon headlining the arrivals. And star striker Kane is confident Tottenham can push champions Manchester City and Liverpool all the way this term after his brace in the win over Villa.”We kept with them for a while last year but they blew ahead after January,” Kane said.”We have to make sure we get off to a good start. Liverpool set the standard on Friday night and City on Saturday afternoon, so it’s important that we stay in touch as long as we can. “We have full belief that we can go all the way but there’s a long road ahead. That’s why we buy players: to strengthen the squad and have more competition for places. That’s what we’ve got.”We’ve got a good, hungry squad. Everyone’s fit and ready to go. The players that came on have to try to make an impact and they did. It’s important for us if we’re going to have a good season. Of course, it’s just the start now but throughout the winter time when loads of games are popping up we need everyone to contribute as much as possible.”Tottenham trailed Villa 1-0 at half-time but Christian Eriksen – who has been linked with a move away – came off the bench to inspire Spurs.Eriksen reportedly opted against a move to Manchester United as the Denmark international holds out for a switch to La Liga, where Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are believed to be interested.Despite uncertainty over Eriksen’s future, Kane stressed the importance of the midfielder. “Obviously I’ve been playing with Chris now for five or six years and we all know the qualities he has: the assists, the passes, the goals,” he said. “Whether he starts or is on the bench, the most important thing from all of our points of view is that he gives everything for the team.”Obviously, there’s been speculation about his future but as long as he’s training hard and playing as hard as he can when he’s here, that’s all we can ask for. What will be will be but we’re happy to have him.”That’s all the fans ask for as well: commitment. We’re happy to have them. We’ll see what happens but from our point of view we’ve got a strong squad and we’ll use that throughout the season.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
Earlier this week, a list of nearly 30 anonymous college coaches were polled on a series of topics. They were asked to name the overrated and underrated coaches in the game today. Those questions, however, didn’t bring about the most-controversial take. No, that belonged to one coach ripping Nick Saban and saying that anyone can win with the best players. That itself is a hot take. But then Skip Bayless decided to add some fuel to the fire.Bayless named the best head coach in the game today – Jim Harbaugh. No, really.“Nick Saban can recruit, but I don’t think he’s the best coach. I think Jim Harbaugh has proven to be.” — @RealSkipBayless pic.twitter.com/NqE4dmA7T2— FOX Sports (@FOXSports) August 22, 2018Bayless brought up Nick Saban’s checkered past in the NFL as a determining factor, then countered with Harbaugh’s success at the NFL level.Regardless of their NFL careers, it’s impossible to make the point the Saban is only winning because he has the best players. He recruited those players, which, last time we checked, was part of a college coach’s job.Skip Bayless has made a career out of these comments, so we shouldn’t be surprised.
#Gators redshirt freshman David Reese out for year with torn Achilles https://t.co/RNPXu84u1f via @247sports— Blake Alderman (@Blake_Alderman) July 11, 2019After going just 4-7 in 2017, the Gators surprised many under newly-hired Dan Mullen in 2018 with a 10-3 season capped off by a Peach Bowl win over Michigan. For their efforts, the Gators were given a post-season AP ranking of 7.Though the Georgia Bulldogs still appear to have the SEC East on lockdown, the Gators appear to be nipping at their heels. As with any SEC team, Florida’s 2019 campaign will likely be dictated by the defense. For their sake, the defense will have to stay healthy heading into the middle of the season. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images)The Florida Gators are in line for a big 2019 season and have a realistic shot at the College Football Playoff. But it looks like they’ll have to make that run without the services of four-star linebacker David Reese.According to Swamp247, Reese has suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the entire 2019 season. The second-year linebacker was a redshirt who made four tackles in two games last year.Reese was a valuable pickup for the Gators in 2018. 247Sports rated him as the No. 297 overall prospect in the country, the No. 20 outside linebacker, and the No. 53 prospect from the state of Florida. The injury to Reese is a big blow to the Gators’ linebacker depth, as they have only a handful of experienced players left at the position.
